Project Overview

The founders wanted to create a management platform that captured the actual workflows of construction and architecture teams. Off-the-shelf project management tools felt too generic and left gaps in critical areas such as time management and document handling. To address this, we developed an MVP consisting of a web app and supporting Chrome and Mozilla plugins, which brought project delivery, scheduling, and collaboration into a single, field-specific solution.

Challenge

Creating a platform tailored to construction workflows required more than assembling standard project management components. Features like scheduling and invoicing needed to be adapted to real-world practices in the field. Browser extensions added another layer of complexity: Chrome and Mozilla impose strict compliance rules and limited APIs, which meant functionality had to be carefully designed to pass approval while still delivering value.

Cross-platform behavior also raised technical hurdles. Gantt charts that performed well for Windows users with a mouse needed to be rethought for Mac users relying primarily on trackpads. Meanwhile, evolving design assets demanded flexibility and careful scope control within the limits of a fixed budget. These combined challenges required constant prioritization and steady coordination between the team and founders.

Solution

We structured the project around two-week Agile sprints, which provided rhythm and transparency for adapting priorities. The system analyst translated workflows into requirements, the tech lead designed the architecture, and developers worked in parallel on the web app and browser extensions. QA testing ensured cross-browser consistency, and DevOps maintained stable environments and smooth deployments. This organization allowed us to tackle technical problems head-on without losing alignment with the client’s vision.

The MVP addressed the core challenges with three major solutions. The browser plugins enabled real-time time tracking that worked offline and synchronized automatically when a connection became available, a critical feature for construction sites with limited connectivity. Project management tools such as Gantt charts and templates were adapted specifically for construction workflows and optimized for both Windows and Mac users. Collaboration was integrated directly into the platform, with messaging, notifications, and document sharing designed to keep teams connected without relying on external systems.

Browser plugins for real-time tracking

The Chrome and Mozilla extensions were designed to log time locally and sync automatically with the backend once a connection was available. This ensured accurate tracking even in low-connectivity environments, which are common on construction sites.

Construction-specific project tools

Templates and Gantt charts were adapted to reflect industry workflows. Interaction models were customized for Mac and Windows users, making scheduling accessible across different environments.

Integrated collaboration

Messaging, notifications, and document sharing were built into the platform, so teams could manage communication and files in one place. QA identified cross-browser inconsistencies early, ensuring the tools were stable at launch.

Results

We delivered an MVP that combined secure authentication, Stripe integration, real-time time tracking, construction-specific project templates, invoicing, and collaboration tools. Browser plugins synchronized reliably with the main platform, and scheduling features worked across both Mac and Windows setups.

Early testers highlighted the platform’s industry focus, noting that it captured construction workflows more accurately than generic project management tools. They found scheduling tasks faster and more intuitive, reducing manual adjustments and errors, while integrated messaging, notifications, and document sharing streamlined communication and simplified project handoffs. Continuous input from the founders ensured the product remained aligned with real-world use cases, which boosted adoption during testing and validated the niche-focused approach.

Although development was paused due to resource constraints, the MVP provided a solid foundation for scaling into a full product. It delivered practical lessons on adapting generic components for specialized industries, navigating third-party approval processes, and managing complex functionality within an MVP scope, setting the stage for efficient future iterations.
